Calderon said he wants separate prisons for kidnappers and a reward system for tips that lead to the capture of criminals, The Wall Street Journal reported. He also favors a national database for cell phones to track which are used in crimes.
A series of high-profile crimes, including the recent kidnap and slaying of the son of a prominent businessman, forced politicians to confront the issue, the report said.
The outbreak is a political setback for Calderon, who made law and order his priority after taking power in December 2006. |
