Mexico City - About 5,000 polling stations opened Sunday in 14 Mexican states, for the third and last stage of a non-binding referendum on the future of Mexico's oil industry.
People from Zacatecas, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Aguascalientes, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Queretaro, Guanajuato are Nayarit were summoned to vote.
According to sources from the opposition Broad Progressive Front (FAP), which have been sponsoring the referendum, over 3,600,000 voting sheets have been distributed in accordance with the high degree of participation of the people.
Representatives from University Networks presented Saturday the four questions of a similar referendum on the energy reform of the state-controlled oil company PEMEX, slated for August 28 in the country's main universities.
Over 90 percent of the voters in similar referendums held on July 27 and August 10 rejected the privatization of PEMEX.
As for the capital, 87 percent of voters said NO to the participation of private companies in PEMEX, while 84 percent disapproved the proposed presidential bill. |
