(Reuters/Henry Romero) | | Los Angeles - Mexico, the United States and Costa Rica will try to consolidate their positions, while Guatemala, Cuba, Canada, Jamaica, Haiti and Surinam fight for their lives on Wednesday as CONCACAF 2010 World Cup qualifying continues.
Group 1 stragglers Cuba are in the most perilous position heading into the third round of matches in the semifinal phase of North and Central America and Caribbean qualifying, having lost two home matches already - to Trinidad and Tobago and, on Saturday, to the United States. On Wednesday they visit Guatemala, who own one point thanks to their draw at Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.
The United States will be bidding to extend their lead in Group 1 when they host Trinidad and Tobago - second in the group with four points - in Chicago.
Mexico lead Group 2 with six points from two matches, and will try to extend that lead when they host Canada in Tuxtla Gutierrez in the south of the country.
Honduras, second in the group with three points, host Jamaica.
Canada and Jamaica, with one point apiece from their draw on Aug. 20, are in dire need of points. |
