The Vallarta Orchid Society'S "Fragrant Orchids" discussion will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, October 25th at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. (sborchid.com)
One of the pleasant surprises people get at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens is the discovery that some orchids have a very pleasant aroma. The fact is, many orchids have an aroma, and most of those aromas are pleasant.

This month's discussion will focus on the many orchids that have a fragrance, and how and when that fragrance is produced. We will cover some of the many fragrances given off by orchids, as well as the different terminology used when talking about fragrant orchids.

The "Fragrant Orchids" discussion will take place on Saturday, October 25th, starting at 1 pm, at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Admission to the talk is free. These talks are designed to educate and enlighten, without getting into too much technical and scientific detail.

The Vallarta Orchid Society is open to anyone with an interest in orchids. There is a modest donation of $200 pesos for membership in the society.

The Vallarta Botanical Gardens has a large (and growing) collection of orchids, many of which are fragrant, and other plants from the area. There is also a restaurant, a swimming hole in the river, and shade houses where young plants get their start. For more information on the Botanical Gardens, visit their website at vallartabotanicalgardensac.org.

The gardens are located 24 Km south of town, just 3 Km past Chico's Paradise. The bus to El Tuito will stop at the entrance to the Gardens, and will return you to town. There is a small fee for entrance to the gardens.

For more information on this talk, or the Vallarta Orchid Society, send an email to pvorchids(at)gmail.com, or visit the Vallarta Orchid Society website at PvOrchids.com.
