Vallarta Orchid Society Lecture Series Continues: Orchid Sex
email this pageprint this pageemail usT.J. Hartung - PVNN

This month's Vallarta Orchid Society discussion will take place on Saturday, November 29th, starting at 1 pm, at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens.

This month's discussion will focus on Who, Why and How orchids are pollinated. Orchids are pollinated by a number of different creatures, other than bees; and there are four different reasons why orchids get pollinated. Pollination is necessary for orchids (and other plants) to produce seeds.

The "Orchid Sex" discussion will take place on Saturday, November 29th, starting at 1 pm, at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Admission to the talk is free. These talks are designed to educate and enlighten, without getting into too much technical and scientific detail.

The Vallarta Orchid Society is open to anyone with an interest in orchids. There is a modest donation of 200 pesos for membership in the society.

The Vallarta Botanical Gardens has a large (and growing) collection of orchids. There are also a large number of other plants from the area. Also, you'll find a restaurant, a swimming hole in the river, and shade houses where young plants get their start. For more information on the Botanical Gardens, visit their website at VallartaBotanicalGardensAC.org.

The gardens are located 24 Km south of town, just 3 Km past Chico's Paradise. The bus to El Tuito will stop at the entrance to the Gardens, and will return you to town. There is a small fee for entrance to the gardens.

For more information on this talk, or the Vallarta Orchid Society, send an email to pvorchids(at)gmail.com, or visit the Vallarta Orchid Society website: PvOrchids.com.
