Mexico City - Mexican President Felipe Calderón sent a letter today on behalf of the Mexican people and government to Senator Barack Obama, congratulating him on his triumph in the U.S. presidential elections.

In it, President Calderón repeated the Mexican government's commitment to strengthening and deepening bilateral relations and working to construct a better future for the region.

He expressed his confidence that relations between the two countries would begin a new stage of progress based on joint responsibility, respectful, open dialogue and mutual trust.

He hailed the fact that the U.S. electoral process, with an unprecedented degree of participation by U.S. voters, ratifies the solidity of democratic life in that country.

Lastly, he invited the successful candidate to visit Mexico in the near future.
