Mexico and Peru to Promote Integration of Latin America

Mexican President Felipe Calderón (R) met Saturday with Peruvian President Alan García.
 
Lima, Peru - Mexican President Felipe Calderón met Saturday with Peruvian President Alan García to review the status of issues of mutual interest and deal with international matters.

As regards security, they agreed to reinforce cooperation between the two nations to fight transnational organized crime in a coordinated fashion. To this end, the date for the 4th Meeting of the Mexico-Peru Committee Meeting on Cooperation against Drug Trafficking and Drug Dependence is to be set shortly.

In view of the complex world economic situation, they agreed on the need to explore spheres of opportunity in the commercial field to increase trade links between the two countries.

As for progress in the Mexico-Peru Free Trade Agreement Negotiations, the presidents expressed their political will to continue advancing their advancement.

They also stressed Mexico and Peru's shared goal of promoting greater Latin American and Caribbean integration, through the consolidation of the Latin American Pacific Rim, In this respect, President Felipe Calderón referred to the importance of working together to make this forum a solid channel on which the various Latin American proposals will converge.

Lastly, the two presidents repeated their willingness to promote regional integration mechanisms during their upcoming participation in the Latin American and Caribbean Summit.
