Mexico Requires a Profoundly Humane Public Administration: President Calderón Presidencia de la República go to original
| Accompanied by Labor Secretary Javier Lozano Alarcón and FSTSE President Joel Ayala Almeida, President Calderón declared that it is essential to meet Mexicans' demands to eliminate corruption in Public Administration. | | Mexico D.F. - President Felipe Calderón declared that Mexico requires civil servants who will behave with political and social sensitivity to guarantee Mexicans more benefits with better quality and in a more timely fashion, in other words, "who are able to put themselves in other people’s shoes."
"It requires a modern, efficient and above all, profoundly human public administration that will meet society’s requirements. This is the type of civil service Mexicans demand and to which my government is committed," he declared.
During the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Federation of State Workers' Unions (FSTSE), the President declared that the challenges facing Mexico will only be able to be overcome with proper Public Administration that will cope with and solve Mexico's problems, rather than avoiding or hiding them.
"The challenges we face require not only dedication, professionalism and efficiency in the tasks involved but also and I would say, primarily, a higher sense of ethics and responsibility," he explained.
Accompanied by Labor Secretary Javier Lozano Alarcón and FSTSE President Joel Ayala Almeida, President Calderón declared that it is essential to meet Mexicans' demands to eliminate corruption in Public Administration, since this requires commitment to transparency, accountability and the strict observance of the law.
At the Treasury Hall in the National Palace, where he also awarded the Journalism Prize for this Federation, the President declared that his government is committed to ensuring civil servants' social and working rights through five pillars:
One, job security, through which 45,000 Health Sector workers already have tenure.
Two, decent pensions, guaranteed by the new ISSTE law. Three, Social Security, to which end 90,000 workers have joined the ISSSTE over the past two years and more money has been invested in this institution during this period than over the past 25 years. Four, access to housing. In this year alone, FOVISSTE financed the purchase of 90,000 houses or apartments and is expected to finance another 100,000 by 2009
And five, through FOVISSSTE, credits will be awarded to ISSSTE pensioners as well as workers. In 2008, this fund has exceeded $13 billion pesos, 20% more than in 2007 and 50% more than in the loans provided in 2006.
"The point is that through these actions, we will improve the living standards of civil servants and their families and acknowledge the importance of their work," he declared. |
