Mexico to Try 6 Colombians on Drug, Weapon Charges Associated Press go to original
Mexico City — Six Colombians arrested during a raid on a Mexico City mansion have been ordered to stand trial on drug, weapons and organized crime charges.
The suspects include Teodoro Fino Restrepo, who allegedly arranged cocaine shipments from Colombia to Mexico's Beltran Leyva cartel.
Police found money, drugs, weapons, lions, tigers and other exotic animals during the Oct. 18 operation.
A Mexican man arrested was also ordered Monday to stand trial, for illicit possession of exotic animals.
The raid has been clouded by allegations of wrongdoing by authorities. Former federal police chief Gerardo Garay is being investigated for allegedly stealing money during the operation, and other officers have been accused of abusing detainees. |
