Out and About in Puerto Vallarta Twila Crawford - PVNN
| With all of the holiday happenings going on around Banderas Bay, it's a beautiful time of the year to be Out and About in Puerto Vallarta. | | Isn't this a beautiful time of the year with many festivities in town?
With Debbi Egan, we observed the processions, her grandson, Gabriel, being in one, along with Faith and Veronica, all from the I.S. Pac School. The children and babies are so beautiful when they arrive at the Guadalupe Church, with the bells booming, clanging and ringing out joy.
Two concerts at the Guadalupe Church are on December 22 and 23 at 9 pm. Donations at the door will be received. For further information, please call (322) 223-4606.
The Puerto Vallarta Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir Christmas concert was magnificent. Conductor Nick Salmans has brought the orchestra along in phenomenal fashion. Joseph Gomez, a Julliard School of Music participant, performed the Mozart Piano Concert No. 23 - Allegro Assai.
The Chamber Choir joined the Chamber Orchestra for a beautiful collection of Christmas music. Children of choir and orchestra families and from the American School joined in "Peace, Peace" to close the concert. Barbara Poindexter provided remarks in Spanish and English to a multiple-faceted audience. Several hundred enjoyed the evening. Thank you to Mary MacLachlan for her tireless organizing of the musical groups. Musicians always are needed. Her email is mary(at)maclachlans.net.
Sid Goodman and Keith May raised $8,000 pesos for the Street Kids to provide Hepatitis A vaccinations. They invited friends and acquaintances to their home for a holiday party and for Sid's incredible chili. We met Sid's daughter, Tracey, who is a professional organizer in San Diego, CA. Opulencia, owned by Miguel Borunda Yanar and Robin Ida Jakobs, catered beautifully decorated fruits, vegetables and chocolate dessert.
San Pancho's first ever Art Walk will be held on December 26 at the galleries and stores located on Avenue Tercer Mundo. Then the annual Art Festival is December 27 and 28. It includes parades, live shows, sculptures, workshops and presentation of local and invited artists. For more information, call 322-117-1677.
Talked with Mario D'Loe, Las Vegas fashion costume designer, at Choco Banana, Amapas 147. He designs costumes for Cirque du Soleil.
We've been crossing paths with respected Tropicasa Realty guys here and there - Wayne Franklin, Marc Serrao and Alfredo Sanchez. See tropicasa.com.

Immigration Day was celebrated for the first time in Vallarta on December 18. A quote from a news release says, "The new administration wants to show appreciation to all the foreigners living in Vallarta for their investments and donations to various charities."
Following the orchestra concert, Sol, Chris and I dined with Joe and Monica O'Sullivan, Keaau, Hawaii, and Andrew and Beverly Littorno, Alamo, CA. Always fun to hear about other places and lifestyles.
Returning to Vallarta today (Saturday) are Jimmie and Mary Ellis after months of travels. So many of us are looking forward to talking with them.
The rock music was turned up. The surgical assistant showed her rhythm. Even the surgeon sang along on a couple of lyrics. I was on the surgical table surrounded by equipment... not able to get up and dance. I do see brilliantly now, thanks to Dr. Jose Antonio Rodriguez. Margaret L'Cuyer, who brings the Street Kids in to Dr. Rodriguez, says he is so good with these boys and devotes great amounts of time to them. Jack and Barbara Roberts of Sayulita had appointments when I did, and they also think highly of him. If you need eye care, you may want to consider Dr. Rodriguez. Email: jart99(at)hotmail.com. He has a fan club!
... IN PASSING
Thank you to all of you who appreciate my community news column I write because of my love for this beautiful place where we live. I enjoy your friendship and acquaintance.
In all of my years in communication and journalism, writing about crime, politics, government, wars, world issues, entertainment and personalities, I have never received malicious letters from readers... until lately in Puerto Vallarta.
Journalists are messengers. Sometimes the messenger is attacked instead of the persons dealing with the real issues. Mercy! What an angry letter writing campaign in this week's issue of the PV Mirror.
A few readers may not agree with what I report and write, and they send me a thoughtful note or we talk about it. Just this week I received a polite letter from someone who owns an establishment sometimes in the news in a controversial way. He says, "Everyone reads your column." He then asked me for some advice. I will politely respond, the way it should happen between letter writers and media persons.
To the Season... peace to all of you. Especially for the reminder of this season, let's consider sharing with the hungry, the sick, and those suffering physically or emotionally. Let's try to make the new year a Happy New Year. An award-winning journalist, Twila Crawford lives in Puerto Vallarta, where, in addition to contributing articles to BanderasNews, the PV Mirror and other local publications, she writes Out and About in Puerto Vallarta, an informative column that offers inside information about who, what, why, where and when it's happening around Banderas Bay.
