| President Calderón arrives in Switzerland to take part in World Economic Forum in Davos today. | | President Felipe Calderón confirmed that it is his government’s premise to protect the population's resources, adding that the establishment of the National Council of Fiscal Harmonization is designed to boost citizens’ confidence in their governments.
This morning, the President led the installation of this council in the Adolfo López Mateos Hall of the official Los Pinos residence, at which he announced a 75% reduction in the current monthly adjustment of diesel prices.
The establishment of the National Council of Fiscal Harmonization is a step towards the transparency and accountability any democratic government should guarantee," declared the President.
During the Council's inaugural declaration, President Felipe Calderón was accompanied by Finance Secretary Agustín Carstens; Governors of Aguascalientes, Luis Armando Reynoso Femat; Chiapas, Juan José Sabines Guerrero and Campeche, Jorge Carlos Hurtado Valdez, as well as a number of mayors. President Felipe Calderón arrived this morning (11:00 a.m. local time) in Zurich, Switzerland, where he was received by the Mexican Ambassador to that country, Luciano Joublanc Montaño.
The Mexican President traveled to the city of Davos to participate in the World Economic Forum, Annual Meeting 2009, this edition of which is entitled: “Shaping a Post-Crisis World."
At the beginning of his activities, the President will meet with Dr. Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León, former president of Mexico. He will subsequently take part in the Plenary Inaugural Meeting of the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum and lastly, attend the dinner hosted by the President of the Forum, Klaus Schwab and members of the founding board.
This is the second time Mexican President Felipe Calderón has visited the Davos Economic Forum, from January 28 to 31 2009. During his participation, the President will lend continuity to Mexico’s active participation in the design of a new international financial architecture and confirm Mexico as a safe destination for investment, and promote the agenda and proposals developed by his government in international efforts to combat climate change.
On this occasion, the World Economic Forum will be attended by over 1,500 participants from 96 countries, 41 heads of state and government, approximately 60 ministers, and 1,400 CEO's of the world's most leading firms. It will also be attended by 50 NGO representatives and 215 academic leaders, who will discuss the handling of the current economic downturn and propose a new model for the long-term post-crisis agenda.
The main issues at the meeting include: Promoting stability in the financial system and reviving world economic growth; ensuring effective, long-term global governance, dealing with the problems of sustainability and development; shaping the values and main guidelines for a post-crisis world; catalyzing the new wave of growth through innovation, science and technology and understanding the implications of business industry models. |
