| It is time to join forces, build synergies and prove, once again, that we are capable to overcoming adversity, declared President Felipe Calderón (C). | | Mexico City - In the presence of President Felipe Calderón, the production industry's production chain signed the National Agreement for Families' Economies and Employment, in which they pledged to create up to 350,000 direct jobs in 2009 as a result of the building of infrastructure works throughout the country.
During the event, held at the official Los Pinos residence, the President said that now is the time for everyone to play a role in overcoming the current economic downturn, adding that in Mexico, infrastructure development is being used as the gate to a more solid, dynamic economy.
After congratulating representatives of the construction industry's productive chain on their decision to sign the National Agreement for Families' Economies and Employment, President Calderón declared:
"You are further proof of Mexicans' character and bravery when we unite under adverse circumstances. We have done so in the past and now is the time to join forces again, build synergies and prove, once again, that we are capable of overcoming adversity and building the Mexico we desire."
The President went on to say: "I invite you, in addition to the pledges made today, to urge all of us working in federal, state or municipal government, to comply with this Agreement and spend public funds in a timely, efficient way throughout the country."
He stated that in order to reinforce the Program to Support Families’ Economies and Employment, surplus oil income of $15 billion pesos has been made available to state governments, in addition to their normal share, for investment in infrastructure in the states.
"Overcoming this crisis requires a new commitment, not only on the part of Federal Government, but also on the part of state and municipal governments and society, particularly the productive sector," he said.
Accompanied by Secretary of Communications and Transport, Luis Téllez Kuenzle and Director General of Banobras, Alonso García Tamés, President Calderón said that on December 15, a fortnight before the new budget came into effect, the Finance Secretary authorized several projects and gave government departments the necessary resources to be able to start work on the projects for 2009 as soon as possible.
"Thanks to these measures, since the end of last year, we have been able to speed up the contracting of works, goods and services from the private sector for $300 billion pesos while Federal Government's public spending will be 50% higher during these six months than it was during the same period last year," he declared. |
