Droves of 'Cowboys' from all around Mexico will be in Puerto Vallarta for the 7th Annual National Charro Championships, February 18th-22nd.
Between hot rodeo action at the Lienzo Charro Rodeo Grounds, performances by the Ballet Folkloric Xiutla, Mariachi, Banda and Ranchero bands, a Charrería parade and lasso demonstrations on the Malecón and a photo exhibition at Plaza Caracol, Puerto Vallarta's 7th Annual National Charro Championships offer something for everyone!

Charrería is sometimes referred to as "sports-art" because like photography, it is an artistic creation. So, a photo exhibition that captures all of the excitement and splendor of Mexico's National Charro Championships by photographer Rafael Juan Padilla Adorno will be on display at Plaza Caracol from February 18th-22nd.

As an independent and active sports photographer who began his professional career as the official photographer for UNAM's American football team in 1985, Padilla has been capturing all of the rodeo action at National Charro Competitions in Mexico for several years in collaboration with relevant websites such as Ampuero-M3.com and DeCharros.com.

Downtown Puerto Vallarta is the place to be on Wednesday, February 18th. Starting at 8:30 pm, there will be free entertainment at the Aquiles Serdán Amphitheater (Los Arcos) across from the Main Plaza that includes performances by the ever-popular Ballet Folkloric Xiutla, Ranchero singer Lalo Guerrero, a traditional Mexican Mariachi band and Charro rope handling exhibitions.

On Friday, the traditional Maleconeada (Charro parade) begins at 10 pm at Parque Hidalgo and continues along the downtown oceanfront street Paseo Dias Ordaz, where the charros invite everyone to enjoy the traditional music of banda, dance in the streets and enjoy the traditional hospitality and joy of the people of Puerto Vallarta.

Not to mention all of the hot rodeo competition going on at the Lienzo Charro Rodeo Grounds, where 36 teams of Mexico's best Charros riding and roping their way towards the National Champion title. Click HERE to see the complete program.

The Charrería continues to be a bond between our traditions and culture that has always drawn worldwide attention - and from February 18-22 Puerto Vallarta will be in the spotlight during the 7th National Championship Charro 2009. Don't miss it!

The Lienzo Charro Rodeo Grounds are located on Mexico Avenue, directly behind the Central Camionera (Bus station) and in front of UNIVA (University of Atemajac) near the Convention Center.
