1000's Enjoy Puerto Vallarta's 1st Carnaval Parade

On February 21, 2009, thousands of spectators gathered to watch the 1st annual Puerto Vallarta Carnaval Parade winds through the streets on the city's south side.
Puerto Vallarta joined the ranks of other Mexican cities, such as Mazatlán, Mérida and Veracruz, in celebrating the Mardi Gras season with the city's First Annual Carnaval Parade on Saturday, February 21, 2009.

What a night it was! Thousands of locals and visitors, many decked out in masks and costumes, lined the streets on the south side of Puerto Vallarta to see the thirty-four "Celebration of Life" themed floats that entered this first annual event.

Traditionally, Carnival is a time to celebrate before Lent. In the Catholic religion, the Lenten season is marked by the practices of fasting and restricted foods during the 40 days of Lent, so the last days leading up to this period are filled with excesses - and, based on the energy of the exuberant crowd, I'd venture to guess that there was plenty of unrestrained partying going on here in Vallarta that night.

A special thanks to Club Mañana for organizing the parade and acquiring the necessary permits to bring this new and fun-filled annual tradition to our fair city by the sea.
