With YCI, the hospitality industry provides valuable education and vocational skills for high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Puerto Vallarta - In February the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA successfully finished the training of the second generation of young participants of the educational program Youth Career Initiative (YCI.) For the Marriott Hotels involved in this project: CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA and the JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City, YCI is already part of their social responsibility programs. The participants, Eduardo Sánchez, Fabián Razo, Gabriela Ventura, Nikkei Castellon, Tomas Correa, Javier Hernández, Paulina León, Uriel de Madrid y Jaime de León, had the chance to develop new interpersonal and professional skills with the objective to open a wide range of opportunities and choices for their career thanks to the valuable support of the managers and associates of the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA. YCI is an initiative supported by the International Business Leaders Forum, a non profit organization founded by HRH The Prince of Wales, with the mission to promote economic and social development, sustained trough the leadership in the private sector. With YCI, the hospitality industry provides valuable education and vocational skills for high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds. YCI is an intensive educational program that combines theory and practical instruction in all the operative and functional workplace situations. The hotel's management team carries out the program, which includes instruction in personal finance, interpersonal skills, English language, computing skills, and personal health and well being. YCI allows the young students to be in touch with the successful hospitality industry in everyday situations. With YCI's program, all the young participants can increase their potential, self-esteem and will be better informed to help them make their career choices more wisely. For the Marriott hotels involved in this project: CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA and the JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City, YCI is already part of their social responsibility programs, becoming an effective and active tool to help the local community and a platform for their associates to contribute actively in the professional career for upcoming generations. In 2007, Mexico became the second country to implement this initiative in Latin America, 2 years after Brazil. YCI is a global initiative present in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Europe, Asia and Australia. In its 13 years of operation, YCI has offered this valuable opportunity to over two thousand five hundred (2500) young people around the world. To celebrate the end of the YCI program in CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA, the managing team organized a very special graduation ceremony, in which the graduates received their certificate from YCI's Operations Manager Alberto Cánovas and Mr. Dennis Whitelaw, the General Manager of the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA and President of the YCI council in Mexico. The graduates shared this important occasion with their families, hotel volunteers and various personalities like Professor Yolanda Cuevas representing Javier Bravo, Vallarta's Municipal President; Aleyda Bravo, DIF's President; Ana Noelia Zepeda García, Chief of Municipal Social Programs; Hugo Cesar Becerra representing Professor Carlos Munguia from DRSE; and Alejandro Torres Manager of the Hotel Association, whom congratulate the graduates of the YCI. Para los hoteles Marriott que participaron en este programa: CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA y el JW Marriott en la Ciudad de México, YCI forma parte de sus programas de responsabilidad social. Los jóvenes Eduardo Sánchez, Fabián Razo, Gabriela Ventura, Nikkei Castellon, Tomas Correa, Javier Hernández, Paulina León, Uriel de Madrid y Jaime de León, tuvieron la grandiosa oportunidad de desarrollar importantes habilidades de vida y vocacionales con el objeto de facilitar su inserción en el mercado de trabajo, gracias al valioso apoyo de asociados del CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA. YCI es una iniciativa del Foro Internacional de Líderes Empresariales, una organización fundada por el Príncipe Carlos de Gales, con la misión de promover el desarrollo económico y social sustentable a través del liderazgo responsable del sector privado. A través de YCI, la industria hotelera internacional contribuye con la educación y preparación para el trabajo de jóvenes de entre 18 y 21 años provenientes de comunidades menos favorecidas, quienes después de haber finalizado el bachillerato, no cuentan con la posibilidad de continuar con estudios superiores o tienen limitadas oportunidades para conseguir empleo. YCI es un programa educativo intensivo que combina entrenamiento teórico y práctico en todas las áreas operativas y funcionales del hotel. La formación es conducida por el equipo gerencial del hotel e incluye lecciones en finanzas personales, habilidades interpersonales, el idioma inglés, informática, salud y preparación para el trabajo. YCI permite a los jóvenes familiarizarse con una amplia gama de situaciones de trabajo en el día a día del funcionamiento de un exitoso negocio hotelero. Por medio de YCI, los jóvenes participantes pueden mejorar su potencial, aumentar su auto-estima y tomar decisiones de carrera de una manera mas informada. En 2007 México se convirtió en el segundo país en implementar la iniciativa en América Latina, después que Brasil lo hiciera en 2005. YCI es una iniciativa global presente en Latinoamérica, África, Oriente Medio, Europa, Asia y Oceanía. En sus 13 años de operación, YCI le ha dado la oportunidad a más de dos mil quinientos jóvenes en diferentes países del mundo de formarse para el trabajo. Para celebrar el fin del programa, se organizó una ceremonia de graduación donde los jóvenes participantes recibieron sus certificados de manos del Sr. Alberto Cánovas Gerente de Operaciones de YCI y del Sr. Dennis Whitelaw, Gerente General del CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort y Presidente del Consejo YCI para México. Los jóvenes graduandos pudieron compartir este gran logro con sus familiares, voluntarios y diversas personalidades como la Profesora Yolanda Cuevas en representación de Javier Bravo, Presidente Municipal; Aleyda Bravo, Presidenta DIF; Lic. Ana Noelia Zepeda García, Jefe de Programas Sociales del Ayuntamiento, el Lic. Hugo Cesar Becerra en representación del Profesor Carlos Munguia de la DRSE; y el Sr. Alejandro Torres Gerente de la Asociación de Hoteles, quienes dirigieron palabras de felicitación a los jóvenes egresados del programa YCI. El Sr. Dennis Whitelaw, Gerente General del CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort y Presidente del Consejo YCI para México, señaló "Es un orgullo poder contribuir como compañía en un proyecto donde se combina la juventud y la experiencia; ver desarrollarse a los jóvenes es altamente gratificante para nosotros, estoy seguro que ésta experiencia será algo inolvidable para ellos y marcará la diferencia en su futuro laboral."
