Jalisco IMSS to Open 10 Daycare Centers Vallarta Opina
| Ten new day care centers will be opened in the state of Jalisco by June 30, 2009. | | Great news for all the working mothers in the state of Jalisco, The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Jalisco announced that by June 30, 2009, ten new day care centers will be opened across the state of Jalisco, nine of which will be built in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, and one in Puerto Vallarta.
These ten day care centers can accommodate as many as 2,554 children. However, availability should not to be taken for granted since these day care centers usually have 100% occupancy reserved within 90 days, and there are currently close to six thousand applicants on waiting lists for these new facilities.
Four of the centers in the Guadalajara metropolitan area will accept children with special needs such as Down Syndrome, IQ under 70%, brain paralysis, deafness, blindness and epilepsy. Acceptance of day care for special needs children so far is poor as the attachment between these special children and their mothers is not yet culturally accepted. Additionally, the lack of knowledge about the services that these centers are now offering to special needs children deters attendance.
According to Martha Fabiola Avelar Macias, Chief of the Department of day care Centers for the Social Security Institute in Jalisco, June 2009 will be a special month for Puerto Vallarta as we will have our first integrated day care center for ALL children, including those with special needs.
So by June, Jalisco will have 105 day care centers available for all. Six will be directly operated by the IMSS, and 99 of them will be operated by Communitarian associations, but closely observed by the health institution.
