College of Architects Supports Malecón Sidewalk Expansion Program

The ongoing project to expand the sidewalks in downtown Puerto Vallarta is scheduled to be completed before the Semana Santa holidays.
The President of Puerto Vallarta's College of Architects, Ernesto Alvarado Villaseñor, provided his support for the ongoing project to expand the sidewalks in the downtown area of the city; this was after a site inspection of the zone accompanied by the Director of Public Works, Mario Bueno and the person in charge of the project, Nubia Zavala Romo.

At the beginning of the project, there were some observations about the size of the sidewalks and the garden areas between the sidewalk and the street, now, even the smallest details have received the deserved attention. "The increased size of the sidewalks will definitely make it easier for visitors and locals to enjoy the downtown areas," Villaseñor said.

The gardens running alongside the sidewalks were planned for good reason; to deter pedestrians from crossing streets in the middle of the block, and to restrict taxi pick up and drop off points to street corners.

Other than providing the city with a better infrastructure for pedestrians, this new project will give the city a fresh new look in an area where many people visit and stroll with their families. Even now, before completion you can understand that pedestrian traffic will flow much smoother than before the project begun.

This project has been validated by State and Federal government authorities, who have indicated that when the work is done, the downtown area will not only be more appealing to visitors but will also provide better security for pedestrians.

According to Mario Bueno, the project is already 35% completed and work is advancing quickly in order to finish before the very busy Semana Santa holidays.
