Community Pride Part of Life in Punta Mita
email this pageprint this pageemail usJudy Parks - PVNN

Community pride has become part of life here in Punta de Mita.
the eyes of children
let them speak
see their smiling faces
a pizza chef before them
tossing dough rounds in the air
into the oven... a feast is the reward

Thanks to the generosity of Punta de Mita restaurants, children are rewarded for their volunteer time spent cleaning up their villages and the beach. Newly opened "Pizzeria Villaggio Italiano" welcomed them Wednesday morning.

I was fortunate to witness the event while sipping my cappuccino on the patio facing the new "promenade" where buses once roared back and forth, and now families are beginning to stroll by. If you have not visited Punta de Mita recently you will be amazed at what you will find. I can't wait for the lights and the trees along the promenade, and for the local restaurants to once again have the opportunity to welcome patrons from near and far.

There are changes everywhere you look in Corral del Risco and Emiliano Zapata - two local villages embraced by the Nayarit Mexican Riviera. The best news is that community pride has become part of life here in Punta de Mita because of the hard work and dedication of PEACE, A.C., Amigos of Playa Punta de Mita (APPM), local volunteers and a commitment from local and state government agencies and individuals. All of these groups are working together to provide a better quality of life for everyone. PEACE receives funding from the Punta de Mita Foundation, APPM and private donors.

Thanks to the efforts of all involved as well as the local leaders in each village, the "Fisherman's Co-operative," the Coast Guard patrol and the handmade signs made by the children, the beach is free of vehicles, and was clean and safe for families to enjoy this Semana Santa, and hopefully into the future.
