| (Reuters/Tomas Bravo) | | América captured a dramatic 3-2, come-from-behind victory against Monterrey on Saturday to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Salvador Cabañas again carried the Aguilas, scoring twice - in the 69th and the game-winner in stoppage time. América's other goal came from Ismael Rodríguez in the 27th.
At Estadio Tecnológico in Monterrey, the home team played better but couldn't capture the victory.
The Rayados' Aldo de Nigris opened the scoring in the sixth off a pass from Luis Pérez.
The Mexico City team tied it up in the 27th with a header from Ismael while battling with José María Basanta.
Monterrey retook the lead in the 32nd when Suazo scored.
With their season in jeapordy, the Aguilas turned to Cabañas who delivered the equalizer in the 69th and the game-winner in the 92nd.
The win leaves América with 17 points. Even with a win next weekend against Necaxa, they would need a remarkable combination of results to get into the Liguilla.
Also on Saturday, the Indios downed Cruz Azul 1-0, saving the Ciudad Juárez team from relegation. Alfonso Blanco scored the game's only goal in the 88th to lift the Indios, who now have 13 points. Cruz Azul is last in the overall standings with 12 points.
All stadiums were closed to fans this weekend due to the flu threat. |
