| President Calderón speaks at closing of Competitiveness Workshop with World Economic Forum. | | Mexico City - President Calderón declared that his government's fight against organized crime is designed to ensure the country's safety and legal certainty to enforce the law.
“This not only benefits people in terms of public security, which is one of Mexicans’ main demands. It also benefits the country’s competitiveness, because insofar Mexico is acknowledged and appreciated because of its governments’ capacity to enforce the law over any interest or any de facto power, insofar as there is legal certainty and public safety, there will also be competitiveness for the country, as well as the capacity for economic growth.
During the Closing Ceremony of the Competitiveness Workshop with the World Economic Forum, the President repeated his commitment to continue working to boost the competitiveness of the economy. He therefore urged the private sector and Mexican workers to join Federal Government in confirming an alliance and promoting the productivity of firms and the quality of public policies.
He stressed that competitiveness is precisely what determines the success or failure of economies, adding that even in times of recession, it is important that the Mexican market should be capable of having international referents as regards price and quality.
“Firms and governments must be truly capable of giving their best in a global economy. That is the rule that will enable the economy and firms to improve," he said.
Accompanied by Secretaries of Finance and Public Credit, Agustín Carstens, and the Economy, Gerardo Ruiz Mateos, the President highlighted the measures this administration has implemented to improve the country's competitiveness, such as the recently passed reforms for pensions and Petróleos Mexicanos, investment in infrastructure and support for small and medium firms, as well as the promotion of the development of science and technology.
“We are determined to undertake a historic process of change to transform Mexico, in the Mexican style, into a competitive economy that will create jobs, be capable of having higher growth rates and thereby creating the jobs and well-being Mexicans demand," he said. |
