Mexican Airport Operator GAP Records Significant Decline in May Traffic Comtex go to original
Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico SAB de CV (GAP) (BMV: GAP) has reported its passenger traffic results for May 2009.
Total terminal passengers at GAP's airports for the month dropped by 36.6% compared to May 2008. International passenger traffic for May 2009 fell by 43.7% compared to the same month last year while domestic passenger traffic showed a decrease of 33.3%.
GAP stated that, in addition to the significant problems caused by the swine flu epidemic, the Mexican Federal Aviation Authority had suspended the operations of Aviasca due to irregularities in aircraft safety. As of May 2009 Aviasca transported 3.6% of GAP's total passengers.
GAP operates 12 airports throughout Mexico's Pacific region, including the cities of Guadalajara and Tijuana and the four tourist destinations of Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, La Paz and Manzanillo, as well as six other mid-sized cities.
