Port Captain Mandates New Water-Safety Measures

In a recent statement by the port’s captain, Miguel Angel Martinez Hernandez, he stressed that "there will be a sharpening of all safety measures by all water activity service providers with aims towards the upcoming high season."

All companies who offer water attractions to tourist must maintain an insurance policy to cover any harm as well as life insurance for all passengers and staff. They must also participate in special operations held in order to preserve the safety of passengers/staff.

Since Puerto Vallarta is a huge tourist destination, plenty of precaution must be taken, and we have to be cautious during the hurricane season with the purpose of evading any incidents in which the sea generates any problems.

He confirms, “We are in constant contact with the service providers and there is a protocol which was used during the previous storm/hurricane. Even though we were fortunate, and the hurricane did not completely hit us, it did come close.” He will therefore insist that this protocol must be used to preserve the safety of all tourists visiting the port.

It has been established that as soon as a passenger sets foot on a boat a life-jacket must be given to him/her, also every member of the crew must be highly certified. Even though if they are not in charge of the navigation they must carry all of the knowledge they need in order to respect the sea and understand the measures that need to be taken in case of an emergency.
