The group dispatches officials to flooded areas in the state, using pumping systems, excavators, tow trucks, backhoes, diggers and other equipment to remove water and debris.
The program was created June 5 and has about 340 officials from the secretariats of Water and Civil Protection dedicated to flood control and another 30 people with motorcycles and radio communication equipment who monitor, supervise and report on flood conditions across the state.
Residents from 13 municipalities have requested flood assistance since June, and the state government estimates that about 202,000 people of Mexico State's 14.7 million people are in areas where flooding is likely.
The group's name comes from Tláloc, the MAcxica god of rain. Incidentally, the National Water Commission responded to low reservoir levels by cutting distribution by 10 percent from Sundays to Thursdays, 25 percent on Fridays and 50 percent on Saturdays. |
