(Presidencia de la República) | | Mexico City - During the commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Reform Laws, President Felipe Calderón announced the creation, during his administration of the Citezens' I.D. Card, which will provide a legal and practical guarantee of every Mexican’s legal identity.
“The Citizens’ I.D. card will contain the full biometric identity of each Mexican. It will provide a practical, legal guarantee of the identity and legal status enshrined by the Liberal Legislation of the Civil Registry, established 150 years ago by Benito Juárez and it will enable each Mexican to have a guarantee of the uniqueness and full distinction each person has regarding others,” he added.
In the Parliamentary Building of the National Palace, the President declared that a century and a half after Benito Juárez passed the Reform Laws, this generation has the duty to consolidate individual guarantees and Mexicans’ equality before the law and above all, to defend the liberties granted 150 years ago from the country's enemies.
“It is our duty to defend these same freedoms from the country’s enemies that seek, through criminal acts that violate others' freedom, to restrict the rights left to us by the Generation of '57,” he said.
Accompanied by representatives of the three branches of government, the Mexican President declared that today Mexico requires the executive, legislative and judicial branch to work together to guarantee the security and legality of Mexicans within a framework of joint responsibility, since it is their responsibility to develop the laws that will encourage a more dynamic growth of the economy.
He said that it is with unity and patriotism that the Mexico of freedom and progress for which an entire generation of liberals fought will be constructed.
“Now, more than ever, the Mexican state requires harmony between its branches: the executive, the legislative and the judicial so that together, we will be able to protect citizens’ freedom and put a stop to the enemies of peace, law, order and institutions,” he declared. |
