| Francisco Rojas Gutiérrez (Wikipedia) | | Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party named Francisco Rojas as its leader in the lower house of congress.
Rojas, 64, was named coordinator of deputies in a meeting today, according to a copy of his prepared remarks for a news conference. He was director of state-owned oil company Petroleos Mexicanos under former President Carlos Salinas de Gortari and has served as president of the lower house’s budget committee.
Rojas will assume the new post Sept. 1.
Following the victory in July elections that made it the largest party in the lower house, the PRI will grapple with President Felipe Calderon’s National Action Party over legislation to reduce dependence on oil revenue and strengthen public finances.
