President Felipe Calderon told Jose Hernandez that he is "very happy that your are putting Mexico's name in space."
Hernandez was born in California and is the son of Mexican migrant workers. He spent his childhood in the U.S. and the western Mexican state of Michoacan, Calderon's home state.
Hernandez is set to rocket into orbit in the space shuttle Discovery on Tuesday.
Calderon on Saturday invited Hernandez to visit the presidential residence to eat and talk about space.
A transcript of the conversation says Hernandez accepted and offered to be an adviser for a future Mexican space agency. |
