A BanderasNews Brief & Upcoming Events Mike A. Arevalo - PVNN September 10, 2009
There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. So we've put together a brief overview of some of this week's news headlines from local Spanish language publications, and added some upcoming events you won't want to miss.
Helping the Unemployed
In a joint effort by the state and municipal governments, Puerto Vallarta Mayor Javier Bravo announced they will have funds to help out at least 500 unemployed people during these difficult times. This new program will provide 500 families $2400 pesos a month for 3 months in exchange for varied services.
In Puerto Vallarta, we have six community service projects which people can join in order to obtain their monthly help. These projects include maintenance of local parks, sports units, painting bridges, and a few recycling programs. All of these programs are set to begin later this month.
New Projects in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta Mayor Javier Bravo is determined to keep improving the city. His next move is to continue on with building projects which had been postponed. He announced that his administration is investing more money on public projects than any prior administration.
Bravo announced that next week they will begin to cover the streets of Playa Grande (a local area of Vallarta) with pavement. He stated "From the beginning of my campaign I promised the local people that I will make changes all around and that is what I intend to continue doing. Even with the current economic problems, Vallarta will keep on improving."
More Income Coming to Vallarta
Javier Bravo Carbajal, Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, met this past Monday with Jalisco’s Governor to try to generate extra income for the city. He indicated that due to the hard work of the FENAMM organization as well as ANMCO, which he leads himself, Jalisco can count on an additional $600 million pesos - and Puerto Vallarta will receive its fair share of it.
Mayor Bravo stated, "even with the economical problems in the city of Puerto Vallarta, we have confronted the situation head on and will not let it affect the programs and plans we have to keep improving the Port."
