A BanderasNews Brief & Upcoming Events Mike A. Arevalo - PVNN September 19, 2009
There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. So we've put together a brief overview of some of this week's news headlines from local Spanish language publications, and added some upcoming events you won't want to miss.
PV on TV
Last weekend, downtown Puerto Vallarta served as the set for a few scenes for a famous Mexican soap opera "Hasta que la Muerte Nos Separe" which has an amazing cast, including Pedro Fernandez, Itati Cantora, Luz Elena Gonzalez and Victor Noriega. The big scene consists of Pedro Fernandez and Itati Cantoral taking a stroll down the Malecón.
While walking down the boardwalk they were accessible to fans who happened to be on the Malecón at that time. This created a mild problem for the production crew, the reason being they wanted to make it look as if they were regular people enjoying a gorgeous day in Vallarta, but people taking pictures of the actors with their cell phones did not help the crew. Even with these mild setbacks they were able to shoot the scene to perfection. Afterwards, the actors were available for autographs and handshakes.
No Danger for Species at the Vallarta Zoo
A black panther is one of the most gorgeous creatures on earth, but unfortunately it is a species in danger of extinction. So there was reason to celebrate at the Puerto Vallarta Zoo when 2 baby panthers (a male and a female) were born this past Tuesday.
Over the years, el Zoológico de Vallarta, which opened on September 15, 2005, has become famous for providing endangered animals with the excellent care and safe environment that has made their captive birth program one of Latin America's most successful.
Last week even a Sicilian donkey was born, another rare breed, but not too rare for the Puerto Vallarta Zoo! (Click HERE for more information and photos.)
French Cinema Makes a Comeback
French cinema is back in Puerto Vallarta, this time on a tour organized by Cinepolis and the French embassy in Mexico. The tour will start September 18th and will run until October 1st, in total they will show over 12 amazing French productions.
The history of French cinema in Mexico goes back to the beginning of cinema itself. In 1896, Gabriel Veyre, the Lumière brothers’ technician, organized the first showing of French cinema in Mexico in front of 1500 spectators, who were amazed by the film.
Almost a century later, in 1997, the French cinema tour was launched, this is a festival which presented the best selection of French cinema that year. And for their 13th appearance they have chosen Puerto Vallarta as the main stage
