He said that under the premise of creating the common good, through the eradication of poverty, all responsible members of society must unite and achieve true solidarity, which implies assuming responsibility for oneself and others' destiny.
“And we must be truly responsible, not only for ourselves, but also for others, which is true solidarity and true social responsibility. This means that those of us that have received most in life, as regards education, assets and values, have the greatest commitment to those with least," he explained.
During his participation at the 23rd World Congress of the International Christian Union of Company Leaders (UNIAPAC), the President said that for Federal Government, the international economic crisis should not be an obstacle to persevering with the public policies that make it possible to improve the lot of Mexicans live in poverty, "the number of which will increase unless we do something to stop the deterioration of their living standards.”
The President highlighted this organization’s entrepreneurial social vision, adding that Mexicans today have the enormous challenge of creating true alternatives of justice and development and creating wealth that is well distributed.
Addressing UNIAPAC representatives from various parts of the world, he urged them to construct a culture of collaboration, rather than confrontation, which is increasingly necessary.
“A culture of solidarity, rather than a culture of hatred; a culture of justice and the deliberate quest for justice in a terribly unjust world. We must all contribute to overcoming these conditions of injustice and poverty that unfortunately continue to exist in our countries," he said.
President Calderón admitted that Mexico is going through difficult times but added that we must be able to distinguish what is important despite these grave circumstances and find alternatives to implement key measures.
“Mexicans must make decisions. Whether we want things to go on as they are, in other words, getting worse, because the poor have suffered serious consequences during the food crisis and the economic crisis or whether we want to overhaul matters," he said.
