| President Calderon arrives in Puerto Vallarta during working tour of Jalisco. (Presidencia de la República) | | Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco - Yesterday, as part of his Working Tour of the state of Jalisco, President Calderón attended the 6th Glocal Forum in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta.
Just after 18:00 (central time), the President declared that it is in the municipal sphere that the quality of citizens’ lives can change.
The role of local governments has been redimensioned, achieving their transformation into genuine government departments, essential for coping with the challenges raised by the current context, as well as for the consolidation of the institutional framework for a genuine federalism in Mexico.
Part of this process is the boost that the National Institute of Federalism and Municipal Development (INAFED), in the Secretariat of the Interior, has given the implementation of the From Local Issues Agenda, by promoting the country's integral development in this fashion.
As a result, the Interior Secretariat, through INAFED, the Government of the State of Jalisco, the Town Hall of Puerto Vallarta and the various secretariats of Federal Government, have organized the 6th Glocal Forum: “Municipal Reinforcement, a Task for All,” held on October 28, 29 and 30 2009 at the International Conventions Center in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
The State of Jalisco will host the most important municipal event in Mexico, which hopes to become a sphere for pluralistic, open encounters for the reflection, analysis and expression of ideas on the challenges facing the municipal institution in the 21st century as well as its key role in the construction of a modern federal system.
It will also be the setting for the awarding of the "National Prize for Municipal Development,” a public distinction and acknowledgement of the efforts that Mexican local governments have made during the year to achieve levels of efficiency that have an impact on citizens' quality of life.
The organization of this event shows the validity of the Mexican federal system and the construction of a democratic, balanced, strong Mexico, with the capacity to attend Mexicans' legitimate needs.
