Because of inadequate investments in higher education, science and technology, Mexico will continue its current economic slowdown, warned the director general of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Luis Enrique Villa Rivera.

At the signing of the Specific Collaboration Agreement between the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the IPN, Villa Rivera said that "there are no miracles, but increasing investment in higher education, science and technology will, without a doubt, aid our country."

"Countries like Brazil, India and South Korea all understand that investing in higher education should be a priority, especially in the domain of science and technology. By doing this, the whole country is exposed to more opportunities to further social and economic development. Today these countries are world powers because of the investments they have made in these areas."

This document signed by the two universities aims to transfer the incubation model of technology companies from the IPN to the UNAM, which would have a direct positive contribution to the collaboration and competitiveness in science and technology.

This also encourages the linking of these domains with production services, therefore accelerating the development of micro, small and medium size enterprises in the country. Jose Narro Robles, rector of the UNAM, reiterated that higher education deserves more and better resources.
