Mexico City - The Boeing Company last week released its current market outlook for 2009, detailing a positive outlook for Latin America.

Marketing vice-president Randy Tinseth told reporters that the demand in the region during the next 20 years will grow by 1,640 airplanes worth 150 billion dollars, expanding by 6.5 percent.

After Brazil, MAcxico is the biggest market in the region, which Tinseth said is growing fast: 226 jets have been added to the country's fleet in the past 10 years, a 33 percent increase.

"The tourism and travel sectors play an important role for the Mexican economy, since it is responsible for around one of every eight jobs and makes up 13 percent of the gross domestic product," Tinseth said.

He acknowledged that 2009 has been a difficult year for Mexican airlines due to the recession started in the United States affecting traffic to and from its southern neighbor, as well as the H1N1 virus that scared off many would-be tourists.

However, the future looks bright, Tinseth said: Latin America will receive an estimated 80 large jets (with a passenger capacity greater than 90); 1,260 planes with one aisle (holding more than 90 people); 290 double-aisle planes (from 200 to 400 seats divided in three classes); and 10 planes classified as 747 or greater (with more than 400 seats in three classes).

By 2028, Latin America will have more than 2,400 commercial planes taking into account the expected additions.

Currently, 13 airlines in MAcxico operate 88 Boeing planes. AeromAcxico is waiting for ten 737 new-generation planes and five 787s, while 717 models will replace MexicaníClick's Fokker 100 fleet.

Worldwide, Boeing predicts a 3.2-trillion dollar market for new commercial planes over the next 20 years and estimates a demand for about 29,000 new planes, including passenger and cargo units. By 2028, this will nearly double all of the world's airplanes.
