Mexico Aug Retail Sales Seen Down 3.75 Pct Yr/Yr Jean Luis Arce - Reuters go to original October 21, 2009
Mexico City - Mexican retail sales likely fell in August from a year earlier, though at a more moderate pace than the previous month as Mexico's economy showed signs of recovery from a steep recession, a Reuters poll suggested.
Retail sales likely declined 3.75 percent from August 2008, according to the median forecast of 14 analysts.
Sales had fallen 4.8 percent in July from a year earlier.
Pummeled by the U.S. economic crisis, Mexico sank into one of the world's deepest recessions last year, though factory orders are beginning to pick up and the central bank says the economy likely surged nearly 3 percent in the third quarter from the previous three months.
Mexico's national statistics agency will report data for August on Thursday.
