IV Copa Pacifico Pro Tennis Tournament Futures 15 Update - Results and Thursdays Matches

The competitors from over a dozen countries began play with the qualifying rounds on Sunday that filled the remaining eight spots after the 18 direct entries were given to the top ranked players to enter, the four wild card berths and the two special acceptance entries for those that completed the field at 32. First round play began on Tuesday and Wednesday provided more superb tennis at the Canto Del Sol Tennis Club.
The highlight match was on Court #1 between 17 year old top seed Vasek Pospisil of Canada and winner of four consecutive tournaments playing unseeded American Maciek Sykut. Sykut had an answer for Pospisil's power game, in fact the harder the Canadian hit, the harder the American returned which forced many errors and growing frustration by the tournament favorite.
The American, seeking a big upset won the opening set in a tiebreak and the tiebreak score was 7-2. Pospisil barely survived the second set, after leading 5-2, he lost two games and Sykut was serving to even the set at 5-5 but a let cord that just dropped over gave the top seed the set 6-4. The match was already over two hours long and all the other opening matches had finished as the two began the third set. Pospisil, through a few temper tantrums won the final set 6-3 to escape with a hard fought victory to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Other seeded winners were #3 seed Cesar Ramirez of Mexico, 6th seed Marcelo Arevalo and 8th seed Adrien Bossel of Switzerland. The only qualifier remaining in the tournament is Alfredo Moreno of Mexico who came in to the field of 32 with the lowest international ranking of 1720.
