Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit - The three beautiful days of 14-16 November saw wind velocities of 6 to 18 knots, giving great enthusiasm to the 43 participating sailors, including 29 Junior Optimist Sailors ranging in age from 9 to 15 years and 14 Laser class sailors competing in the 2009 Regatta de Revolution - Vallarta hosted by the Vallarta Yacht Club.

The top 6 sailors in the Optimist class officially formed the Mexican national team that will represent Mexico in the 2010 South American Optimist Championships in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

Sailors competing in the three days of racing on Banderas Bay came from Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Mexico City, Edo Mex, Nayarit and as far north as the United States and Canada.

Competition was intense with three sailors emerging in first place in their overall division; Adrian Varela (Nayarit) in Optimist Beginners, Cristina Ortiz (Nayarit) in Optimist Advanced and Cris Dodd (Canada) in the Laser class.

The Laser class competitors included three distinguished Olympians; our beloved Tania Elias of Mexico City and Chris Dodd & Lisa Ross of Canada.

A very pleasant and convivial atmosphere was provided by the Vallarta Yacht Club where, in addition to a delicious Mexican dinner, several surprise gifts were raffled with the top item, a Lap Top computer was won by Sergiel Martinez, Nayarit Optimist.

The security, safety and organization ashore and afloat was sensational. Thanks to the Regatta Chairperson, Jajana Vicent and the Principle Race Officers Randy Hough (Optimist) and Mike Danielson (Laser), and all of the 30 VYC volunteers and experts who joined the team as well as the excellent facilities which led to a first class event.

Full results and photographs of all races and competitors are available on the Vallarta Yacht Club website, VallartaYachtClub.org. Results are posted in Racing Documents & Results, photos are posted here: Regatta Photos by Jay of Strange Bird Photos.
