Mexico in Favor of Democracy in the Pacific Arc Region ISRIA go to original November 27, 2009
| Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa Cantellan | | Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa Cantellano chaired the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Pacific Arc countries in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. She said that the Latin American Pacific Arc Forum has become an important forum for regional integration as well as a useful instrument for expanding cooperation between the Latin American nations and those of the Asia-Pacific region.
The eleven countries of the continent with a Pacific Ocean coastline met in order to seek to expand their economic and trade relations and to make concrete progress in integration and development based on shared values and principles such as democracy and respect for the rule of law and fundamental freedoms.
In her speech, Ambassador Patricia Espinosa stressed the progress that has been made towards the specific goals of trade convergence and integration, cooperation for competitiveness, promotion and protection of investments and the facilitation of trade, infrastructure and logistics. The Foreign Secretary said that, given the global financial and economic crisis, it is time to speed up the process and increase the efforts of coordination that are underway. She called for the necessary impetus to make a reality of our economic convergence and for making use of economies of scale and specialization.
For Mexico, the Pacific Arc Forum has a great deal to contribute today not only for the benefit of its members but for all of the Latin American and Caribbean nations.
The following were also present at the inauguration: Economy Secretary Gerardo Ruiz Mateos; Jalisco Governor Emilio González Márquez; Puerto Vallarta Mayor Francisco Javier Bravo Carvajal; and the Foreign and Trade Ministers of Chile, Colombia.
