Mexico to Participate in APEC Economic Leaders' Summit in Singapore Suzanne Stephens Waller - Presidencia de la República go to original November 13, 2009
Mexican President Felipe Calderón will participate in the 17th Summit of Asian-Pacific Economic Forum to be held on the 14th and 15th of this month in Singapore, whose slogan is: Sustained growth: connecting the region.
The meeting represents a platform for strengthening Mexico's links with Asian-Pacific countries and promoting political, economic and cooperation links with one of the world's most dynamic regions. At the same time, it provides an opportunity for President Felipe Calderón to converse with the leaders of the economies represented there on global issues such as the challenges of the international financial crisis and the actions required for coping with climate change.
Among other activities scheduled for this meeting, which will be attended by the presidents and prime ministers of 21 countries, the Mexican president will participate in the Leaders’ Dialogue on Regional Economic Integration, at working sessions devoted to promoting balanced, inclusive and sustainable growth as well as binding the nations in the region more closely together.
During this summit, on November 14, President Felipe Calderón will attend bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Australia and Japan, Kevin Rudd and Yukio Hatoyama, respectively. That same day, he will also meet with Singapore's business leaders.
On Sunday 15th, the President will attend a working breakfast with his Chilean and Peruvian counterparts, Michelle Bachelet and Alan García respectively. Lastly, he will participate in the Ceremony of the Dissemination of the Final Declaration to the media, at the official headquarters of this summit meeting.
At the 17th APEC Summit Meeting, Mexico will seek to promote a future based on open, flexible cooperation, that will ensure its access to the benefits of trade, investment and technology. It will also support the initiatives to promote economic recovery, stability, safety and prosperity in the region, as well as actions to reduce the current gap in growth levels between developed and developing countries.
