Mexico 2010 Inflation Seen at 5.04 pct - Cenbank Poll Patrick Rucker - Reuters go to original December 18, 2009
Mexico City, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Private forecasts for Mexican 2010 inflation increased in December due to the impact of higher consumption taxes, a central bank survey showed on Friday.
According to the monthly poll, economists and analysts said in early December they expect inflation to rise to 5.04 percent in 2010 compared with a forecast of 4.86 percent in the prior month's poll.
Mexican consumers will pay higher consumption taxes starting January under a revenue package approved by lawmakers in October. The central bank has said the tariffs will have a one-time impact on prices, but analysts nonetheless see the tax regime putting upward pressure on inflation.
Former treasury secretary Agustin Carstens was confirmed as central bank chief this week and said he expects lending rates to remain at their current level in the near-term.
Analysts expect the economy to grow 3.1 percent in 2010. The November poll returned an estimate of 2.9 percent.
