Over 50 hardy Canadians braved the frigid temperature of 28°C (82.4°F) to celebrate the 2nd Annual Polar Bear Swim in Jaltemba Bay in the Mexican seaside village of Rincon de Guayabitos at 9 am on New Year's Day 2010.

The first Rincon de Guayabitos Polar Bear Swim was held on New Year's Day 2009, when a small, but enthusiastic, crowd of just over a dozen people gathered at the ocean’s edge and jumped into the chilly waters. They held the event to bring attention to climate change in this area. Water temperatures dipped into the high 70°F during last year's event.

Rincon de Guayabitos is a small Mexican Pueblo on the Pacific ocean, 70 kms north of Puerto Vallarta. It is the home to approximately 20,000 Canadian and American full- and part-time residents.
