Mexico Extradites Five Fugitives to US IANS/EFE go to original January 25, 2010
| | Mexico has extradited more than 200 criminals since December 2006, with most of the suspects being sent to the US. | | | | Mexico City - Five fugitives wanted on rape, drug and murder charges have been extradited by the Mexican government to the US, authorities said.
Juan Sebastian Campos, Arnoldo Coronado Arenas, Jorge Serrato Garcia, Pedro Banda Gaxiola and Jose Gonzalez were handed over to US law enforcement agents last week, the Attorney General's Office said.
Campos was wanted for rape, sexual assault and corruption of minors, among other charges, in Pennsylvania.
Coronado Arenas faces sexual assault and other charges in Texas, where he allegedly raped a minor and got her pregnant.
Serrato Garcia was wanted on criminal conspiracy and drug charges by the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Banda Gaxiola faces charges in the US District Court for the Southern District of California for allegedly running a criminal organisation that smuggled drugs into Hawaii and Ohio using couriers.
Gonzalez will be tried on murder charges in a court in Hidalgo County, Texas.
Mexico has extradited more than 200 criminals, including several drug lords, since President Felipe Calderon took office in December 2006, with most of the suspects being sent to the US.
