A BanderasNews Brief & Upcoming Events Sylvie Scopazzo - PVNN February 25, 2010
There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. So we've put together a brief overview of some of this week's news headlines from local Spanish language publications, and added some upcoming events you won't want to miss.
Puerto Vallarta Clean Up Campaign
David de la Rosa Flores, coordinator of Delegations and Municipal Offices assures that there has been a positive response from the citizens of Puerto Vallarta over the 'Clean Up Campaign' which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday. Each Municipality has received the necessary tools in order to implement this recent clean up program which commenced this month, February.
"The purpose of this campaign is to send a message that together we can create a clean environment and take better care of our community. You won't see us sweeping the streets since our main focus is litter and large discarded items."
He went on to say, "We can help make Puerto Vallarta a clean and litter free environment. This weekend, various Public Services, Parks and the Ecological Departments will get involved with the clean up and we invite Educational and Community Directors to get involved also. This Saturday at 9 am, we will be in the area of Los Tamarindos, and we invite everyone in this community to participate in our Clean Up Campaign."
Zero Tolerance Program
The new Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Salvador Gonzalez Rezendiz confirms that he has a put into place a new program to combat the issues of delinquency. "Zero Tolerance" will be focusing on putting a stop to graffitti that seems to be on the rise in Puerto Vallarta as well as deterring the younger generation from creating late night disturbances.
This program came about due to the influx of calls to the complaints department. He realizes also that this new program may see an increase of complaints against his very own police department. "We realize that this is a double edge sword but we assure that all those caught in an act of vandalism or police abusing their power, will be dealt with accordingly."
Gabriel Igartua Sanchez, president of the Fideicomiso of Tourism in Puerto Vallarta, expresses his trust in the initiative of this new program and comments that 'Zero Tolerance' should be taken seriously. "This program is very important in where the entire community needs to participate to assure a safe environment which is free of corruption from Transit Police pay-offs to giving gifts for business transactions."
