President Felipe Calderón stresses joint work between Federal Government and government of Mexico state.
Toluca, Mexico State - President Felipe Calderón confirmed his commitment to the families affected by the recent floods and reported that a state of emergency and natural disaster has already been declared in the municipalities that were affected and that FONDEN resources have been activated.

“Today I declare that Federal Government will not abandon families affected by this storm in Mexico State, Mexico City and other parts of the country.

During the official announcement of the manufacture of the FIAT 900 vehicle in Mexico at Chrysler’s factory, the President highlighted the joint work carried out by the federal and state government in helping the population, not only in the task of cleaning up but also in providing funds to enable them to rebuild its houses and replace its household items.

“We will continue working closely with local authorities. Rest assured that you will have the support of Federal Government and the President's staff during these difficult times as well as all the support required to help families in the state of Mexico cope," he said.

Accompanied by state governor Enrique Peña Nieto, the President reported that in order to prevent and eliminate the problem of floods, this administration is promoting the construction of the East Issuing Tunnel, which will solve the problem of the Drainage System in the Valley of Mexico.

He remarked that this work will cost 15 billion pesos, the amount required to put an end to these emergencies.

“It will take time, of course, but it is worth doing now. This is an important decision which, had it been taken many years ago, would probably have prevented the current situation,” he said.
