During the meetings, President Calderón outlined the opportunities Mexico offers investors as well as the economic solidity that has made Mexico one of the world’s best investment destinations, according to a recent study by global consultants AT Kearney. He said that Mexico has investment options in traditional sectors such as energy, automobiles, car parts and electronic products and highlighted the importance of exploring the aerospace and clean energy sectors.
For their part, the Japanese businessmen congratulated President Calderón on his anticyclical measures and the country's economic recovery, as well as his commitment to the fight against organized crime in Mexico.
During the meeting with the directors of Mitsubishi Corporation, the President described the Federal Electricity Commission’s projects as well as those included in the National Infrastructure Program. The area of energy investment is a particularly attractive investment area for this Japanese firm.
At a meeting between the President and Panasonic directors, led by their president Fumio Ohtsubo, points of view were exchanged on the growing need for electrical appliances with more efficient energy use and the opportunities provided by Mexico for the production and export of this type of appliances.
Lastly, at a meeting with the directors of the Toyota firm, President Calderón hailed the company’s decision to open a new factory in Mexico, which will represent an investment of $800 million USD and create 7,500 direct and indirect jobs.
President Felipe Calderón was accompanied by: Secretary of Finance and Public, Credit Ernesto Cordero Arroyo; Secretary of the Economy, Gerardo Ruiz Mateos, and Director General of ProMéxico, Bruno Ferrari; as well as Governors of Guanajuato, Guerrero and Nuevo León: Juan Manuel Oliva Ramírez, Zeferino Torreblanca Galindo and Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz, respectively, as well as Mexican Ambassador in Japan, Miguel Ruiz Cabañas and Rogelio Granguillhome, Head of the Economic Relations and International Cooperation Unit of the Foreign Affairs Secretariat.
