Nautical Extravaganza: Speed and Adrenaline with J24 Sailing nauticalextravaganza.com March 06, 2010
| The J24 races begin on March 9th and continue through the 13th, as part of the 2010 Riviera Nayarit Nautical Extravaganza. | | From March 9-13th the world’s most popular type of sailboat will converge in Riviera Nayarit painting our bay with hundreds of little sails. The J24 races are one of the 7 events of the Regata Copa Mexico Nextel Bicentennial Edition. This racing series will take place between March 6th and 13th and will bring together some of the fastest vessels in the world to this destination, as part of our month long Nautical Extravaganza.
Ten competition regattas shall serve to define the winners from among the crews who have already confirmed their participation from ten different countries, of which include two world champion teams and three North American champions. To guarantee a highly competitive regatta, Mexico Cup has decided to restrict the registrations to only 70 vessels.
The host will be Marina Riviera Nayarit, located in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, from where the vessels will depart to fulfill all and each one of the tasks.
The J24 class is the most popular sailing vessel used at international competitions, for that reason it serves as a high performance ship for competition, as well as for recreational activities. As a matter of fact, this class came to be when Rodney Johnstone and his brother Bob decided to design a ship that would allow them sail with all the family, but keep its ability to participate at races.
Today, there are over 5300 vessels of this kind, conforming 150 fleets in over 40 countries, and to over 50 thousand sportsmen sailing in them.
