Miami Beach, Fla. - Mexico was given permission to send its Olympic team supplemented by five overage players to the 2011 Copa America, South America’s championship.

CONCACAF, the regional governing body, said Wednesday that other than the five wild-card players, others on the team will be restricted to players eligible for the 2012 London Olympics, limited to players born in 1989 or later. Mexico has been in every Copa America since 1993.

CONCACAF also said Mexican clubs will remain eligible to qualify for the Copa Libertadores, South America’s annual club championship. Mexico will be participating for the eighth consecutive tournament in 2011.
