Six men accused of buying guns as "straw buyers" for a ring that smuggled weapons into Mexico were sentenced this week in federal court in Phoenix.

Prosecutors say three men were sentenced Tuesday to six months of home arrest, one received two months in prison and another got three months in prison. The sixth man was sentenced to three years of probation.

The six men bought a combined 13 guns for the ring. Six others were charged in the ring. The status of those prosecutions was unavailable because the cases are sealed.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement estimated that the ring smuggled about 200 assault rifles into Mexico. Authorities say many of the guns used in Mexico's drug war were bought in the United States and smuggled into Mexico.
