Mexican and US Officials Arrest Fugitive Associated Press go to original May 29, 2010
Yuma, Ariz. — An Arizona-based federal task force working jointly with Mexican authorities has announced the capture of a "Most Wanted" fugitive.
U.S. and Mexican justice officials said 21-year-old Texas slaying suspect Jose Luis Covarrubias was arrested in Mexicali Wednesday and handed over to federal authorities in Calexico, Calif.
Marshals developed information that Covarrubias was hiding out in Mexico.
U.S. Marshals then coordinated the arrest with Mexican judicial officials.
Authorities said Covarrubias was involved in a dispute between two men at a nightclub April 19.
When the men left the club in a taxicab, Covarrubias allegedly followed them in his vehicle and fired multiple rounds from a shotgun.
The cabbie died but the two men survived.
Authorities said Covarrubias is awaiting extradition to Texas for criminal proceedings.
