Iraq U.S. War Deaths Stand at 4,397

As of Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at least 4,397 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
The figure includes nine military civilians killed in action. At least 3,484 military personnel died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.
The AP count is two fewer than the Defense Department’s tally, last updated Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT.
Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 31,790 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department’s weekly tally.
The latest deaths reported by the military:
• Two U.S. soldiers died of noncombat-related injuries in Iraq Monday in unrelated incidents. The incidents are under investigation.
The latest identifications reported by the military:
• Sgt. Keith A. Coe, 30, of Auburndale, Fla.; died April 27 in Khalis, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an explosive device; assigned to 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
• Sgt. Anthony O. Magee, 29, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; died April 27 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany of wounds suffered April 24 when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire at Contingency Operating Base Kalsu, Iskandariyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga.
