Cancun, Mexico - Prosecutors say lawyers for a reality TV producer accused of murdering his wife in Mexico have filed a legal challenge there to try to block his extradition.

Mexico has requested Bruce Beresford-Redman's extradition from the United States. The appeal asks a higher court to consider whether the underlying arrest warrant is valid.

Quintana Roo state prosecutor Rodolfo Garcia says the petition arrived Friday.

Beresford-Redman is charged with killing his wife, Monica, who was found in a sewer of a Cancun resort in April.

The former "Survivor" producer and co-creator of "Pimp My Ride" denies the charges.

His lawyers said Thursday that he would surrender to U.S. authorities if necessary, but he intends to fight extradition.
