“I invite social organizations, businessmen, many of whom are committed and here today, workers, university students, intellectuals and the media, because it is time for social leadership,” he said.
During the Presentation of the General Guidelines for Running School Boards with Social Participation, the President explained that there is no other way for Mexican youths that are well educated and trained to succeed.
“Today, we must provide every student with the knowledge, skills and technological tools that will enable him to succeed.
That is why, perhaps now more than ever, the country’s success is associated with its quality of teaching. Quality education is a legitimate demand of society, students and of course, of parents. It is a central objective of school teachers and directors and above all, an essential aim of Mexican society.
And one of the keys to achieving this quality is precisely social participation," he declared.
Accompanied by Public Education Secretary, Alonso Lujambio Irazábal, and Elba Esther Gordillo, President of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), the President declare that School Boards are essential for making the training of children and young people not only a task for teachers but a collective task.
“And even more than interested parties, all those that are responsible for the education of these children. Because we cannot simply leave children to their fate at school, or make teachers shoulder the entire burden of children or make parents responsible through what they can do at home," he said.
